Traveling Through Grief

Updated: Apr 19

The past few months have taken me on the road not just to new places, but through a journey of grief and healing. After our beloved golden retriever, Davinci, passed away, I found myself needing to move. To go anywhere but home. I think a part of me believed that if I wasn’t home, I wouldn’t feel his absence as deeply. But the truth is, no matter where I went or what I did, I couldn’t escape the ache of missing him.

Davinci wasn’t just a dog. He was part of our daily rhythm, our family, and such a comforting presence. His absence has left a huge void.

Since I was a child, dogs have always been a source of comfort for me. They helped me through times of loss and heartache in ways words never could. That understanding stayed with me, and it eventually inspired me to offer that same kind of support to others. Over the years, I’ve had three therapy dogs who joined me at work, bringing their calm and gentle energy to those in need of comfort.

Now, as I continue to navigate life without Davinci, I’ve leaned into my Reiki practice more than ever. It grounds me. It reminds me that healing doesn’t mean forgetting it means making space for the love, the memories, and the quiet strength that carries us forward.

Reiki has been a gentle companion during this time helping me stay present, process grief, and reconnect with the quiet comfort that animals like Davinci always gave so freely.

If you’re moving through your own loss, whether it’s a pet or a person, Reiki can offer a peaceful space to simply be with what is, and to begin healing in your own time.

Here’s to Davinci, who loved so well and is still so loved!
